It seems like it's time to blog again, but frankly, I don't have much to say. Last week we took the kids to Disney World, and I feel like I left my brain there. I definitely left my will to live. I mean, Jesus. I don't know how we got through it. There was a lot of gritting of teeth and mumbling, "We're good parents. We're good parents. We're good parents." Then by day three I was saying things like, "Do not make me swear at you at fucking Disney World!" and the kids were like, "Um." So maybe not such good parents after all.
Anyway, I did get some reading done on the plane, and that's pretty much what I want to talk about because it brings us to the list of very soon to be released books that I'm going to insist all of my friends buy.
First of all, you're going to buy The Swan Gondola by Timothy Schaffert. I read The Coffins of Little Hope a few years ago and loved it, but I just finally got around to reading Devils in the Sugar Shop on the plane home. It was the highlight of my vacation. (I get that in the context of my vacation report, this doesn't sound that good, but honestly, it was smart and funny and I fucking loved it).
You're also going to buy The Meaning of Names by Karen Shoemaker. Karen is brilliant and classy and one of the finest writers I know. Her short stories are exquisite, and I've heard her read from this book, and I'm telling you, it's going to be a knock-out. Also, it's being put out by Red Hen, and Kate Gale doesn't make mistakes.
Also from Red Hen, fucking Bill Trowbridge! Put This On, Please: New and Selected. Obviously, this is also going on your must order list.
Speaking of poetry, you'll be ordering a copy of C Dylan Bassett's as yet untitled debut collection, because did I mention that Spark Wheel has another book coming out? Because we do. Oh, we do. We do. We do. And next week, I'm going to tell you all about it.
